Saint Francis with Birds Icon

The icon of Saint Francis of Assisi is an original work, created with deep reverence and care by Ewa Krepsztul.

The icon portrays the beloved saint in a peaceful and contemplative composition, surrounded by birds against a luminous gold background. The image evokes Saint Francis’s profound love for all of God’s creation, reflecting his humility, gentleness, and deep spiritual connection with nature.

The depiction of Saint Francis also shows the sacred stigmata, the wounds corresponding to those of Christ’s Crucifixion, which Saint Francis received as a profound sign of his union with Christ in His Passion. These wounds express the saint’s extraordinary devotion, humility, and complete surrender to God.

The birds, traditionally associated with Saint Francis, symbolize his love for all living creatures and his reverence for the beauty of God’s creation. The radiant gold background lends the image a timeless, sacred quality, enhancing the spiritual presence of the saint and creating an atmosphere of serenity and prayer.

This image invites quiet contemplation, reminding us of Saint Francis’s example of simplicity, compassion, and faith. It can serve as a meaningful focal point for prayer and meditation, bringing a sense of peace and sacred beauty into the home or prayer space.

It is created on a Linden wood board, on which a cloth was placed.  This cloth is a memorial of St. Veronica’s veil which reflected the face of Jesus on the way to Calvary. The board was primed with twelve layers of gesso symbolizing the twelve Apostles. The icon was written using natural dry pigments mixed with white wine, water, and egg yolk and then refined with 24-carat gold, a symbol of the presence of God.

This icon can be an exceptional gift for those seeking solace, protection, or spiritual guidance. Its profound beauty and symbolism make it a cherished keepsake, offering comfort and a sense of divine presence to those who turn to the Blessed Mother in times of need.

All eViaCordis icons are handwritten by Ewa Krepsztul, whose mission is to proclaim God’s beauty through works of art as His little paintbrush.
